Marine Community Dynamics

Marine communities vary over space and through time. My research not only focuses on how these community dynamics affect the marine soundscape, but also the converse: how do marine soundscapes affect community structure?

For instance, larvae of many marine organisms utilize underwater sound to locate suitable settlement habitat, thus a changing soundscape might also alter larval recruitment into an area, which affects community structure. Furthermore, as anthropogenic stressors continue to degrade coastal habitats, exploring the interactions and feedbacks between community structure and marine soundscapes will help inform conservation and management policies.
